Minesweeper is the quiet giant of desktop puzzles: a grid of hidden squares, a handful of mines, and numbers that tell you how many mines touch each revealed cell.

There is no luck once the board is generated — every safe move can be deduced. Flag the squares you are certain about, use the numbers on the edges of cleared areas to narrow the field, and only guess when there is genuinely nothing left to prove.

Three difficulty levels, first-click safety, and instant restarts make it a reliable five-minute distraction.

How to play Minesweeper

• Left-click a square to reveal it. The number shows how many mines touch it.
• Right-click (or long-press) to flag a suspected mine.
• Revealing a mine ends the game — flag every mine to win.
• Use the difficulty buttons to switch between 9×9, 16×16 and 30×16 boards.

Tips & strategy

Minesweeper is pure deduction once the board is generated. Every number is a constraint, and the best players treat it like a small logic puzzle rather than a guessing game.

• Open a corner or edge first. Edge cells have fewer neighbours, so their numbers give you more information per reveal.
• A 1 that touches exactly one unrevealed square identifies a mine; flag it and move on.
• Compare adjacent numbers. If a 2 and a 1 share squares, the difference often marks a safe cell.
• Use the remaining mine count as a global constraint — when few mines are left, unrevealed clusters become easier to resolve.
• Avoid guessing while any forced move exists. Scan the whole board before clicking an unknown square.
• The first click is always safe in this version, so use it to open a large area rather than a single cell.
