Sokoban is the warehouse puzzle that has been quietly frustrating people since 1981. You move a worker around a grid and push crates one square at a time; the catch is that you can only push, never pull.
Six levels introduce the basic ideas in order: single crates, then multiple crates, then walls that block the obvious route. The undo button exists because every Sokoban player eventually pushes a crate into a corner and needs to take it back.
Moves and pushes are counted separately. A solution with fewer pushes is usually the more elegant one.
How to play Sokoban
- Move with the arrow keys, WASD, the on-screen pad, or a swipe.
- Walk into a crate to push it one square. You cannot pull crates.
- Push every crate onto a green goal to clear the level.
- Use Undo or Z to take back a move; Reset restarts the level.
Tips & strategy
Sokoban is a planning game. The mistake that ends a level is almost always a crate pushed into a corner, not a missed step.
- Never push a crate into a corner unless it is already on a goal. A corner crate can never be moved again.
- Before pushing, check where the crate will end up and whether you can still get behind it.
- Push crates along walls rather than through open space; walls keep them aligned with goals.
- Solve one crate at a time. Moving two crates at once usually creates a blockage you cannot undo.
- Use undo early. A five-move reset is cheaper than trying to recover a bad position for twenty moves.
- Count pushes, not steps — the level is designed around the minimum number of pushes.
