Hangman is the word-guessing classic: a hidden word is represented by blank spaces, and each wrong letter adds a line to the drawing. Six wrong guesses and the round is over.

The words are common English nouns, five to eight letters long, which makes the game readable rather than obscure. The keyboard shows which letters you have already tried, so there is no need to remember your guesses.

A streak counter tracks consecutive wins. It is a light, quick game — one round usually takes less than a minute.

How to play Hangman

  • Click a letter or type it on the keyboard.
  • Correct letters are revealed in the word.
  • Wrong letters add a part to the drawing and cost one of your six lives.
  • Guess every letter before the drawing is complete to win the round.

Tips & strategy

Hangman is a probability game. The goal is to narrow the word without burning lives on rare letters.

  • Start with E, T, A, O, I and N — the most common letters in English words.
  • Look at the pattern, not just the letters. A three-letter word ending in E is often THE, ARE or ONE.
  • Avoid rare letters like Q, Z, X and J until the word shape suggests them.
  • If you have two lives left, guess consonants that fit the pattern rather than vowels you have already ruled out.
  • Repeated letters are common: once you find one occurrence, check whether the same letter fits other blanks.
  • Use the streak as a signal to slow down — a careless guess costs more than a few seconds of thought.
